Stephen Starr, the founder of STARR Restaurants and the restaurateur behind some of the best names in dining, is bringing a new steakhouse concept to Bal Harbour.

Slim’s will open at Bal Harbour Shops, located at 9700 Collins Avenue in Bal Harbour, in the spring of 2026. The restaurant will open in the original Makoto spot at the tony shopping center. Starr, who also owns and operates Makoto, moved the Japanese restaurant to a stunning new location on the third floor of Bal Harbour Shops in 2022.

According to a press release, Slim’s is inspired by “the timeless allure and glamour of the golden age of cinema”. Diners will enjoy the finest cuts of steak and crafted martinis while reclining in plush leather banquettes. The restaurant will serve as a tribute to elegance and refinement — a perfect way to end a day of shopping.

Philadelphia-based STARR Restaurants includes a portfolio of eateries in Philadelphia, Washington D.C., New York, Florida, and Nashville — including iconic names such as Pastis, Buddakan, Le Cafe at Louis Vuitton, and Makoto.

Bal Harbour Shops is a destination for luxury shopping and dining just a few minutes north of Miami. Shops include Balenciaga, Saks Fifth Avenue, Chanel, Goyard, and more.
