18 Sunset, a new mixed-use development from Deco Capital Group coming to Miami Beach’s Sunset Harbor neighborhood, will be home to Uchiko, a Japanese restaurant brand from Texas-based Hai Hospitality, according to coverage from the South Florida Business Journal.
Uchiko is part of a family of Japanese restaurants from James Beard Award Winner and rare American sushi master Chef Tyson Cole. The family began in 2013 when Chef Cole opened Uchi in Austin. The concept has since branched out to include Uchiba and Uchiko, which means “child of uchi.”
Austin’s Uchiko location offers Omakase chef’s tasting menus with ten or five courses. The menu comprises a selection of frequently changing small plates, some hot, some cold, some sushi, all tempting. The Sunset Harbor location will be Uchiko’s fifth, opening in a 6,000 square foot space in the upcoming development.
“We quickly fell in love with the energy of Miami when we opened our first Florida Uchi location in 2021,” Hai Hospitality CEO Tony Montero is quoted in the South Florida Business Journal Coverage. “When we found the Eighteen Sunset development, we knew it would be the perfect location to continue to grow in Miami with Uchiko, and we’re looking forward to adding to both the energy of the city and Sunset Harbour with Uchiko Miami.”
Uchiko Miami is expected to open in 2024.
