Cafe Pista, a local coffee favorite with multiple locations across Montreal, is preparing to reopen its Saint-Laurent Boulevard cafe in downtown Montreal, located at 1587 Boulevard Saint-Laurent in the Quartier des Spectacles, following an extended closure due to two separate fires earlier this year.
The branch has remained closed since the incidents, but is expected to return by Fall 2025, according to Silo57. The company operates three locations in Montreal, including active cafes on Beaubien and Masson Streets. The Saint-Laurent outpost has faced a series of setbacks over the years, including multiple break-ins, thefts, and vandalism. In recent months, the two fires, one in an adjacent residential building, have led to extensive damage, forcing a full shutdown of the popular spot. As a result, Cafe Pista has launched a crowdfunding campaign through Quebec-based platform La Ruche to help fund the rebuild.
While the Beaubien and Masson locations continue to operate, the Saint-Laurent cafe remains a key part of Cafe Pista’s presence in downtown Montreal. The team is working to restore the space and reopen in time to serve its loyal customer base this fall. The campaign offers several contribution tiers, ranging from coffee subscriptions to private event rentals, all designed to support the restoration process. Founded in Montreal, Cafe Pista has built a reputation for high-quality coffee, community-focused spaces, and consistent local support. The Quartier des Spectacles location previously served as a hub for nearby professionals, students, and festival-goers. Its central location and foot traffic make it a natural fit for the brand’s return to the area.
“After a few months of silence, we wanted to give you news about Cafe Pista St-Laurent,” according to the company’s social media. “Many of you have come by, write to us or check up on us even though the door is closed — thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support. Work is progressing on our side. We finished emptying and decontaminating the basement, which had received nearly a foot of water during the firefighters’ intervention. A whole container of inventory had to be thrown away. This week, it was all about the ceiling: 2,000 sq. ft. soaked in water, now renovated. A big step towards restoration. What follows depends on the demolition of neighboring buildings, heavily damaged, scheduled for next month. Once this site is complete, we can focus on the rest… and above all, on rebuilding our team to welcome you back in fall 2025.”
