Good Neighbour, a casual restaurant and bar concept, is set to open its doors in the heart of Ottawa’s Centretown, located at 399 Elgin Street.

The new concept will move into the longtime home of St. Louis Bar and Grill in late Spring 2025, according to CTV News. Signage for the new restaurant recently appeared on the building’s windows, teasing the arrival of what the brand calls “a fun take on your classic neighbourhood restaurant and bar.” While spring is slowly coming to an end, it’s unclear exactly when this new restaurant is expected to open. Regardless, the new eatery will provide the neighborhood with an exciting new dining option.

Good Neighbour describes itself as “the kind of place you’d want right around the corner… a lively, unpretentious bar and restaurant where good food, great drinks, and even better company come together… the kind of spot you look forward to coming back to.” Inspired by beloved neighbourhood bars “where the game’s always on, the playlists are never dull and the service lets you know you’re in good hands,” Good Neighbour aims to bring a welcoming, no-frills vibe to Centretown, according to the company’s website. “Come as you are — just be ready to stay awhile. No dress code, no attitude — just a neighbourhood joint that feels like it’s been here forever, even if we’re just getting started.”

The menu will feature craveable comfort food, made with care, including wings, steak sandwiches, fresh pastas, and shareable appetizers. Behind the bar, guests can expect a combination of classic and creative offerings, including 12 taps with house-made spritzes and a proudly Canadian wine list. The upcoming opening follows the recent closure of St. Louis Bar and Grill, which had operated at the location for 18 years. A fixture on Sens Mile known for its lively patio and game-day energy, the restaurant shut its doors in January.

“It is with great sadness in our hearts that we announce after 18 years of business, we are closing our doors,” read a statement posted to Instagram and signed by the “St. Louis Elgin Family.” “We want to thank our amazing guests for all your love and support over the years.” With Good Neighbour moving in, the prominent Elgin Street corner is poised for a fresh chapter. If its concept holds true to its name, it won’t be long before it feels like a local favourite.
