The Nashville Film Festival revealed new additions to its 56th annual lineup, running September 18-24, 2025, featuring films from acclaimed directors and rising stars. On the festival’s opening night, Morgan Neville’s Man on the Run, a documentary delving into Paul McCartney’s life and career after The Beatles’ breakup, will premiere.

56th NashFilm Kicks Off Opening Night with Paul McCartney Documentary ‘Man on the Run’

The annual Nashville Film Festival (NashFilm) is a week-long celebration of global iconic films, music, culture, and art. It has recently announced additional titles that will be showcased along with the previously lined-up films.

Man on the Run

‘Man on the Run’ will open the film festival at Regal Green Hills on September 18 at 6 p.m., followed by an opening night celebration at Urban Cowboy Bar in The Arcade.

Directed by Academy Award winner Morgan Neville, the film offers an intimate look at Paul McCartney’s life after The Beatles, including forming Wings with Linda, launching his solo career, and navigating the pressures of fame. The film further features rare archival footage and unprecedented access that reveal his transformative post-Beatles journey.

Lauren Thelen, NashFilm’s Programming Director, mentioned, “Each year, we strive to curate a lineup that captures the depth, energy, and diversity of today’s most compelling stories.”

From documentaries and thought-provoking dramas to animated features and reimaginings of classics, the Nashville Film Festival shines a spotlight on both established filmmakers and emerging voices.

The film festival recently announced five exciting new additions to its lineup, bringing even more variety to the 140 films already scheduled. The newly confirmed titles are as follows:

All That’s Left of You

Directed by Cherien Dabis and starring Cherien Dabis, Saleh Bakri, Adam Bakri, Mohammad Bakri, Maria Zreik, and Muhammad Abed Elrahman, follows three generations of a Palestinian family over 75 years. The film combines epic storytelling with intimate, personal moments, evoking some of cinema’s most enduring family sagas.

Amy Scott’s Counting Crows

Have You Seen Me Lately? Features Adam Duritz, Cyndi Lauper, Steve Kerr, Chris Martin, Jeff Ross, and Mary-Louise Parker. This intimate documentary explores the legacy of Counting Crows and Duritz, offering a raw look at artistry, identity, and life on stage. With unprecedented access, it traces the band’s journey from Berkeley coffeehouses to arena performances and the emotional highs and lows along the way.

Hedda

From writer and director Nia DaCosta, ‘Hedda’ is a provocative modern reimagining of Henrik Ibsen’s classic play, starring Tessa Thompson, Imogen Poots, Tom Bateman, Nicholas Pinnock, and Nina Hoss.

Magic Hour

Magic Hour, starring Katie Aselton, Daveed Diggs, Susan Sullivan, D.J. “Shangela” Pierce, and Brad Garrett, is a heartfelt film from writers Katie Aselton and Mark Duplass. It follows Erin and Charlie as they retreat to the desert to face an unexpected and challenging new phase in their relationship.

Stitch Head

Directed by Steve Hudson and starring Asa Butterfield, Joel Fry, Alison Steadman, Rob Brydon, Fern Brady, Tia Bannon, and Jamali Maddix, is a whimsical animated feature about a small creature, Stitch Head, awakened by a Mad Professor in his castle. Tasked with protecting the professor’s other creations, Stitch Head must face the angry townspeople of Grubbers Nubbin.

Stronger Than You Think

Stronger Than You Think, directed by Janice C. Molinari and Melissa Forman and starring Ali Truwit, is an inspiring documentary that follows the swimmer’s journey from surviving a shark attack just after college to competing on the Paralympic stage. The film captures her resilience, determination, and triumph over adversity.
