The seafood restaurant has served customers for nearly 35 years. Its Smyrna outlet receives patrons from across Tennessee for its lobster bites, fish & shrimp, lobster bisque, Oreo cheesecake, and more.
However, in a routine inspection conducted on July 16, inspectors of the Tennessee Department of Health observed nine violations of the food code. Based on it, they gave it a score of 79 and asked Captain D’s representatives to make corrections.
The on-site inspectors observed that while preparing food, employees at the Smyrna establishment were touching clothing and cell phones. They were resuming the preparation without washing their hands; inspectors noted the issue to the person in charge (PIC).
Inspectors noted the absence of paper towels at the women’s restroom handwashing sink. The dishes in the 3-compartment sinks were washed without adequate sanitization. Additionally, chemical spray bottles were found placed adjacent to food products on the prep table.
In its inspection report, the Tennessee Department of Health listed multiple cleanliness issues at Captain D’s Smyrna. The ice buckets were not stored in an inverted manner. Inspectors observed dirt and debris on coolers, cooking equipment, and walk-in cooler fans.
