Alba’s Empanadas, a vibrant new takeout window, is set to open this week in The Gulch. Nestled directly adjacent to Golden Sound cocktail bar on Magazine Street, this exciting addition allows guests to conveniently enjoy empanadas to-go or through delivery services.
This marks the debut brick-and-mortar location for Alba’s Empanadas, which originally captivated taste buds for thousands at pop-ups throughout Los Angeles. The innovative team at Adept Hospitality, known for their dynamic concepts such as Golden Sound and the popular omakase speakeasy Sushi | Bar, collaborated with LA community tastemaker and musician Jah Landis, also known as Roofeeo, to bring this vision to life.
Alba’s Empanadas is the heartfelt creation of Jah, named in honor of his mother, who profoundly influenced his culinary journey. Following the loss of his mother in 2018, Jah dedicated himself to honing his cooking skills, ultimately leading to the launch of Jah Mama’s Hot Sauce—a tribute to the homemade sauce that was a staple of his childhood and which quickly gained a cult following. At Alba’s, guests can look forward to savoring Jah Mama’s Hot Sauce on most empanadas, along with a personal reinterpretation of his mother’s cherished empanada recipe.
“My mother’s passion for food taught me the importance of bringing flavor into everyday life,” Jah shared in a statement. “By using her favorite ingredients, I stay connected to that love, no matter how far from home I may be, and I’m so excited to bring a taste of home and the Caribbean to the Nashville community.”
The menu will showcase four signature empanadas: the Jah Mama Chicken (a secret family recipe), Wagyu Steak, Jah Mama Mushroom and Cheese. Accompanying sides will include flavorful yellow rice, mixed green salad, fried sweet plantains, and a sweet potato empanada for dessert.
“What’s beautiful about seeing this come to fruition is that it was truly just an organic (no pun intended) situation that brought about this initial idea. The love and devotion that Jah brings to showcasing these beautiful flavors from his childhood was exceptionally special and something we wanted to share with others,” said Ryan Stock, co-founder of Adept Hospitality. “We believe in the power of food to create connection and joy, and Jah’s deep-rooted passion for flavor resonates perfectly with our mission. When it came time to decide where we wanted to build this first brick-and-mortar store, there was no question that Nashville was the perfect market and I am so excited for the town to begin enjoying Alba’s Empanadas.”
