According to recent permits, local coffee cafe Barista Parlor will expand with a new location, this time in the growing Wedgewood Houston neighborhood near Geodis Park soccer stadium. The address of the new location will be 401 Benton Ave. in MarketStreet Enterprises’ Park Commons development.

An opening timeline is unknown, but could take six months to a year pending construction and permitting. This will become Barista Parlor’s seventh location in Music City, including an outpost at BNA airport and a recently opened cafe inside the W Nashville hotel in the Gulch. There are also locations outside of Tennessee in Louisville and Indianapolis.

Permits note that the space will include a 1,750-square-foot coffee shop, bar, and kitchen. The value of the buildout is $350,000 and Nashville-based Powell Architects will lead the design.

Known as a community hotspot for creatives and coffee aficionados, Barista Parlor takes locally roasted espresso beans, pastries, housemade syrups, community art, and ample seating as important parts of its identity. The brand aims to “blend art and commerce, support locally sourced artisan products and sustain an atmosphere that cultivates beauty, creativity, and community,” according to its website.

Barista Parlor was founded by owner Andy Mumma in 2011, who also co-owns Chopper Tiki Bar, Maiz de la Vida food truck, and Moto Moda lifestyle brand. Barista Parlor’s first location opened in an old East Nashville auto transmission shop, adding to the industrial-coolness of its atmosphere.

Recently, Barista Parlor made headlines earlier this year when multiple locations experienced employee walkouts and mass firings after complaints of low hourly pay and mismanagement, resulting in prolonged closings.

Mumma was not immediately available for comment when requested by What Now Nashville. Customers can keep updated with Barista Parlor on its website, Instagram and Facebook pages.
