Faith Adair has always had the idea of opening a coffee shop in the back of her mind. So when in July she spotted a space becoming available among the limited commercial space offerings in Pleasant View, she decided to take the plunge.
“It just felt like one of those moments that was meant to be,” Adair told What Now Nashville. “I consider my style a bit more funky and fun, so I felt like what I was planning to bring to the community was something different. I’m a strong believer in multiple of the same businesses being able to thrive because we all offer something different.”
Birdie’s Craft Coffee will open at 1000 Civic Ct. this fall. Adair is targeting an October opening.
Inspired by her great grandma’s name and her daughter’s middle name, Birdie’s will have a “cool grandma” atmosphere reminiscent of Adair’s grandma’s house in southeastern Kentucky. Expect to see touches of nostalgia, rock ’n roll and funky fun in the design.
The coffee shop will have traditional coffee offerings, as well as its own lineup of signature drinks that offer nods to Adair’s family. Highlights include the Little Charlotte — named after her grandma — that will include instant espresso, brown sugar and a regular shot of espresso; the Sunday Best, which will be a graham cracker latte with espresso and cinnamon; and the Dana — named after her husband’s mother — that will be a creamy vanilla Coca-Cola espresso beverage.
Through these offerings, Adair hopes to bring something different to the town of Pleasant View. She is looking forward to opening a new small business in the region, especially amid the growth of chain shops and restaurants in the area.
Adair is hoping the space will become a cozy, welcoming gathering space that will complement current local offerings.
“I want to create a space for community, whether that’s for fellowship or to get together to talk with a friend,” Adair said. “Whatever it is, I want it to feel cozy and like home and a safe space for people to come and enjoy a cup of coffee.”
