Char Expanding To Franklin This Year

The steakhouse will join the Canteen on Carothers development.

4Top Hospitality has a new site in the works for their steakhouse brand Char. It will join mixed-use development Canteen on Carothers in Franklin. 4Top Hospitality partner Doug Hogrefe confirmed the new location in a message to What Now Nashville.

The 6,500-square-foot steakhouse is expected to open in late 2025. It will feature a dining room, bar and patio and will have room to seat 215 customers, according to a release.

The Franklin location marks the fifth location for the Char brand, which started in 2001 in Jackson, Miss. and has since expanded to Huntsville, Ala., Memphis and Nashville. The Char website describes it as “a contemporary steakhouse offering modern Southern cuisine with distinct spirit and charm.”

“The beauty of Char is that it can be many things: a working lunch, afterwork drinks, your go-to dinner spot or a date night destination. Guests return because they love our modern takes on Southern favorites in an approachable environment with the impeccable service expected from a steakhouse,”
Hogrefe said in the release. “That vibrancy of the Canteen mixed-use community falls perfectly in line with Char, and we look forward to welcoming guests whether they live, work or play in the area.”

Char offers brunch, lunch and dinner menus. The menu serves items like USDA Prime and Choice cuts of meat, seafood and sides such as garlic mashed potatoes and carmelized onion mac n’ cheese. Char locations also has a piano bar and nightly live jazz music.

4Top Hospitality has been expanding its restaurant concepts since its inception in 2009, starting with Char and Italian restaurant Amerigo. Other concepts include Saltine, Jasper’s and Etch, which now has a location at The Factory at Franklin.
