In tandem with forthcoming barbecue spot The Pulled Pit, Alkebu-Lan Images Bookstore owner Jordan Harris and SmoQe Signals BBQ founder Shon Harmon plan to bring a coworking space and cafe to their North Nashville development at 1408 Buchanan St. next year, according to the Nashville Business Journal.
The Harambe House will serve as a members-only space with Afro-Arab design elements and lounge seating. It will also have a breakfast-lunch cafe with a walk-up window that both members and non-members will be able to access, according to the Business Journal.
The Harambe House will share the building with The Pulled Pit, which will serve as a flagship restaurant for Harmon’s long-running food truck business SmoQe Signals BBQ. The sit-down restaurant will serve Tennessee-style barbecue.
The Harambe House will be an addition to Harris’s portfolio of Nashville businesses that derive from cultural inspiration. Harris’s father, Yusef, opened the bookstore Alkebu-Lan Images nearly four decades ago. The spot places emphasis on Black culture and art, highlighting topics ranging from Black history to religion and philosophy.
Development and construction within the North Nashville building are still forthcoming.
