Champy’s World Famous Fried Chicken is expanding in the Nashville area, starting with a Sobro location slated to open this summer. However, local co-owner Rachael Goonan told What Now Nashville that they have further plans for growth.
“We would love to continue to grow the brand, out toward the suburb areas,” Goonan said.
Goonan currently owns and operates the Murfreesboro and Smyrna locations for Champy’s with her husband, sister-in-law and brother-in-law.
Beyond the forthcoming Nashville location, the team is looking for sites in Mt. Juliet, Sumner County and Williamson County.
“We’re always looking for what fits the style of our brand and what we need in those areas,” Goonan said. “That’s our goal — to keep going.”
Seth and Crissy Champion began Champy’s in Chattanooga in June 2009, basing the menu around a family recipe. Since then, it has grown to ten locations, with three in Chattanooga, one in Cleveland, Tenn., and four Alabama locations, in addition to the Smyrna and Murfreesboro spots. It is known for its fried chicken, and it serves additional menu items such as Southern dishes, Mississippi Delta homemade hot tamales and 40-ounce beers.
“Champy’s strives to offer a delicious menu that honors our 40-year old family recipe and the food culture of the Mississippi Delta,” the Champy’s website states. “We take the time to do everything right: that means all the food we serve is made by hand, every piece of chicken is fried-to-order and we serve it all with a fun, friendly attitude that helps people enjoy their time with us.”
