Longstanding M Street Hospitality concept Tavern has closed at 1904 Broadway. The hospitality group closed Tavern with plans to open a new concept in the space, according to an Instagram announcement released this week.
Contemporary Japanese izakaya concept BAR RŌKA will open at the address later this year. Expect to see shareable Japanese tavern-style tapas and sushi handrolls, alongside a beverage program featuring sake, Japanese whisky and cocktails. The atmosphere will be designed for fun nights out with friends, according to the announcement.
“As we look ahead, we also honor the past,” an announcement on the Tavern website states. “Tavern’s story has come to a close after 14 unforgettable years. We are grateful for the community that made it such a staple, and for our Tavern team, who now continue their hospitality at other M Street concepts until returning to welcome you at BAR RŌKA.”
In addition to Tavern in Midtown, M Street has multiple Nashville concepts in its portfolio, including Virago, Moto Cucina + Enoteca, Kayne Prime and Saint Añejo. Virago opened in 2000, and M Street Hospitality CEO Chris Hyndman began to expand to other concepts in 2009.
Efforts to obtain further details about BAR RŌKA prior to publication were unsuccessful.
