According to recent permits, the popular food truck serving Mexican classics outside of Chopper Tiki Bar, Maiz de la Vida, will be opening its first brick-and-mortar location within the next few months. The restaurant will reside in the Gulch area of Nashville in the former Antiques Building at Paseo, already home to the Australian cafe Two Hands, at 620 8th Ave S.
Although an exact opening timeline is unknown, it’s likely that the restaurant may open in two months or more, looking at an August or September opening.
The restaurant comes as a partnership between co-owners Andy Mumma of Barista Parlor and Chopper Tiki, and James Beard Semifinalist chef Julio Hernandez, who will be in charge of Maiz’s kitchen and menu.
Maiz de la Vida got its start slinging tacos in East Nashville with homemade authentic tortillas from its tortilleria of the same name. The restaurant’s accolades over the years include being featured on Netflix’s “Somebody Feed Phil” television show in 2022 as well as receiving rave reviews from its customers.
It’s expected that the menu offered at the new space will be a similar but expanded version of its food truck menu, as well as offering cocktails and simple but elegant Mexican food, according to The Tennessean.
Some of the popular menu items it currently serves include chicken, beef, and hashbrown birria tacos, quesadillas, carne asada tacos, and elote, or Mexican street corn.
Customers can keep updated on the progress of Maiz de la Vida’s brick-and-mortar grand opening on its website and Instagram page.
