North Nashville nightclub Minerva Avenue, located at 1002 Buchanan Street, experienced a fire following Fourth of July festivities over the weekend.
In a statement released by the Minerva Avenue team in the wake of the fire, they shared that the damage is “extensive” and that they are “currently assessing next steps.” An investigation into the cause is ongoing. However, early reports indicate that fireworks could have been the cause.
The spot has become a staple on North Nashville’s nightlife and bar scene since its opening in the Historic Buchanan Arts District.
“For the past eight years Minerva has always been more than just a bar — we’ve been proud to serve as a staple in this community — a place where culture, conversation and connection thrive,” the statement read. “Our team, many of whom have been with us since day one, is the heart of everything we’ve built. Their loyalty and dedication are unmatched, and we are committed to being there for them during this difficult time.”
Make a Play Hospitality, helmed by Robert Higgins Jr. and Joe Johnson, is behind the concept. Minerva’s concept is a nod to Higgins’s childhood home, and it is designed to offer a nostalgic feel, featuring elements of art and music ranging from the 1970s to modern day.
Make a Play Hospitality’s portfolio also includes Sunset on Belacourt, Jar10 and Bungalow 10.
As of now, Make a Play Hospitality is working on supporting their team and addressing the immediate aftermath of the fire. However, the team shared in an Instagram caption that Minerva’s story is not over, indicating that it will return. They are currently charting a path forward for the bar, stating that this event is not an “RIP” but instead a “see you soon.”
“To everyone who’s reached out with love and support: thank you. It means more than we can express,” the team wrote. “We’ll be taking time to regroup, but please know this — our story doesn’t end here. We’ll share updates as we’re able. Until then, we appreciate your patience and continued encouragement.”
