Soy Cubano is heading to the Nations, according to a filed permit. It will open at 4500 Charlotte Ave., where Tres Hermanos closed in early December.
Founder Javier Salado opened Soy Cubano at The Wash in spring 2022. This forthcoming location will mark the first expansion for the brand.
Salado draws on his experience growing up with his parents, who emigrated from Cuba, in Miami. Soy Cubano draws on Cuban influence, with some fusion in the mix.
“I may be far from palm trees, pastelitos y cafecitos (Cuban pastries and coffee), but I’ve never lost my passion for my culture, especially the food,” the Soy Cubano website states. “It’s time to reconnect with my roots and I’m excited to share the flavors of my upbringing with my community, whether it be through Cuban sandwiches, like my dad’s famous pan con lechón (roasted pork sandwich) or twists on Latin cuisine.”
The menu at The Wash location features Cuban coffee, snacks such as beef empanadas, plates such as pollo a la plancha (garlic lime chicken breast with onion) and mojo pork (slow-roasted pork butt marinated in sour orange-garlic mojo), and sandwiches such as pan con lechon (a Cuban mojo pork sandwich) and pan con bistec (a steak sandwich).
Salado told What Now Nashville that the new location will feature a similar menu. The spot in the Nations is expected to open in early to mid-spring.
