According to recent permits, a new speakeasy bar will be coming to 612 21st Ave N. in March of next year. Named 1865 Club, the concept comes as a collaboration between local real estate entrepreneurs Carla Waldron and Nick Schroer. Though this will be the duo’s first food and beverage venture, they are already well-versed in Music City’s growing landscape as the faces behind Noteworthy Properties, a short-term rental property business.

According to Shroer, their rental unit in The 1865 building is what sparked the entire concept of opening a speakeasy in the building’s lower basement level. What Now Nashville spoke with Shroer about the details of the upcoming concept and what customers can anticipate at 1865 Club.

“We already own some Airbnb’s in the building, and when we toured the building after buying our first unit we saw the space downstairs and realized the potential there, that it could make a really cool speakeasy. We ran from there and started putting a few concepts together, and now we’re officially doing it,” Shroer said in a phone interview.

The 1865 Club will primarily be a members-only establishment but day passes will be available for more accessibility, making it friendly for out-of-towners and others looking to check out the space. The speakeasy will offer tasteful cocktails by a skilled mixologist and a small food menu focusing on snacks that pair well with cocktails like charcuterie boards, all inside a piece of Nashville’s history.

“We won’t mess with the aesthetics of the space a lot since it’s already got the speakeasy look from being a former tobacco warehouse, but we do want to add a ‘wow’ factor right when you walk in. There’s a lot of competition when it comes to bars and other speakeasies in town, but we really want to focus on bringing that spectacular feeling. Backlit granite, a talented mixologist, and our great cocktails will raise the bar,” Shroer added.

Stay tuned for an official grand opening date next year.
