Utah-based dirty soda franchise Swig broke into the Nashville market earlier this year, when franchise owner Mark Kunz opened two locations back-to-back in Brentwood and Spring Hill. Now, Kunz has signed a lease for a third location. It will open in a 2,085-square-foot space at 1213 Greenland Drive in Murfreesboro, formerly home to Truist Bank.

Kunz told What Now Nashville they are hoping to open the new location in October or November. Eventually, he is planning to open up 15 Middle Tennessee locations, and this will launch Swig into the Murfreesboro branch of that expansion. The spot is near Middle Tennessee State University, which appealed to Kunz location-wise.

“The plan is to put two to three in Murfreesboro, and we felt the university students were a great market for us. That was the first thing,” Kunz said. “The second is the location. It allows us to put two more locations in Murfreesboro that are not incredibly close. It really just fit the exact picture of what we were looking for.”

Moving forward, he hopes to roll out more locations in Murfreesboro and other areas quickly. The next neighborhoods they are looking to target include Franklin and Lebanon.

“We want to go as fast as we possibly can. We don’t have any reason to slow down,” Kunz said. “The biggest issue right now is just real estate and finding spots that work with what we’re trying to find.”

Swig launched in Utah in 2010, bringing creative dirty soda concoctions to customers. It now has more than 100 locations. Menu items include Dirty S.O.P. (Dr. Pepper, coconut and peach), Life’s A Peach (Dr. Pepper, vanilla, peach and half & half) and create-your-own dirty soda options. Swig also serves refreshers, cookies, pretzel bites and hot chocolate.
