Third Coast Comedy Club, which has been dedicated to being a spot for local comics and improv performances since its inception in Marathon Village in 2016, has plans to move later this year, according to their website. They will continue to operate there until their lease is up at the end of September.
The comedy club is aiming to relocate to a spot that will allow them to expand their offerings of shows, classes and community-building events. They had outgrown their home in Marathon Village, and are looking for a larger space.
The team, helmed by co-founders Scott Field and Luke Watson, has been searching for a new space that would fit their needs for the past 15 months. Now, they have set their sights on a century-old historic former funeral home in East Nashville at 904 Gallatin Ave. The building would have the room to house their vision for multiple stages, classrooms, rehearsal spaces, a podcast and film studio, a full-service bar, a food truck and a beer garden.
While the space is ideal for their needs, Third Coast Comedy Club is still looking to secure the necessary funding.
“This potential new home is a great fit in nearly every way — location, size and monthly rent — but it requires significant work before we can move in and open our doors to the community,” the founders wrote in a letter on their website. “The original structure of the main building is over one hundred years old and we need to make some necessary improvements (i.e. a fire sprinkler system, upgraded electrical system and a new elevator) before we can do a proper buildout for the theater.”
Now, Third Coast Comedy Club is asking the community for support in a crowdsourcing campaign to fund the $750,000 for the move and renovations.
“This isn’t just about keeping Third Coast alive,” the Third Coast Comedy Club website states. “It’s about giving Nashville comedy room to grow. With your support, we’ll create an even better home for the laughs, connections and unforgettable nights that have defined this community for nearly a decade.”
