Announced this week, the restaurateur duo known for Nashville’s chic diner The Mockingbird is planning to open a Mexican restaurant at 1008 Buchanan St. this fall, called Tío Fun Mexican Munchies.
Though there is no official grand opening date set, September is the tentative timeline for opening.
Mikey Corona and Brian Riggenbach will serve as the founders and co-owners of Tío’s. The fast-casual Mexican restaurant will neighbor local favorites such as the original Slim & Husky’s location, Willi B’s Kitchen & Lounge, and Minerva Avenue cocktail bar.
The restaurant currently doesn’t have any social media channels set up. Its elusive website divulges little detail about the new concept other than explaining that being the “fun uncle” in the family dynamic is what was Corona and Riggenbach’s inspiration for Tío Fun’s theme and name.
“We cannot wait to share our Mexican Munchies that are meant to be enjoyed to the MAX! Now everyone in Nashville will gain a Fun Tío and all of the goodies, over-the-top foods, and kick-ass experiences that come with having a fam member like him around!” states the website.
Menu highlights will include Mikey’s Super Taco, which is an oversized flour-tortilla taco loaded with carne asada, potato, beans, cheese, and “a ton of love.” The Tío Fun burger is layered with corn tortilla and a signature meat blend, and raspas, Mexican snowcones, will be topped with whip cream, ice cream, and a ton of bold flavors, states an article from the Nashville Business Journal.
Tío Fun will also offer ways to give back to the community with monthly gatherings. The Journal reports that the team is already planning for a “prance & pick” starting at Tío Fun, where participants will pick up trash around the neighborhood and get complimentary tacos.
Keep up to date as the grand opening of Tío Fun approaches on its website.
