Memphis-based Trap Fusion is moving its Nashville location from 614 18th Ave. N to 607 14th Ave. N, according to permits and a recent Instagram post. The spot closed along 18th Avenue North this week to make the move to the new location, according to the post.
The new location will serve as a food and event park, co-owner Markeith McCoy told What Now Nashville. There will be both indoor and outdoor seating options available, as well as room to hang out and build community.
“We’re going to have cornhole and different games on the property to create that type of vibe to bounce off the tourism that Marathon Village brings,” McCoy said.
Trap Fusion is known for its soul food, with signature dishes like jerk chicken alfredo pasta, Cajun buttered lobster tail, Cajun fish and gritz, and Caribbean oxtail. McCoy said they will be adding a few new items to the menu at the new location, mainly in the form of modifiers and additions to dishes.
The new location will also highlight Trap Vegan, the vegan branch of the Trap Fusion brand. Using only vegetables, the Trap Fusion team crafts menu items similar to their traditional menu, offering items like vegan alfredo pasta and vegan fish and gritz as alternatives to the traditional Trap Fusion offerings.
“Someone can come to our restaurant and one person can be vegan and the other can be traditional, and they can enjoy the same type of meal without having to feel isolated,” McCoy said.
Trap Fusion got its start in Memphis in 2019 when founder Jason Darnell Gardner — better known as Chef JGardner — launched the brand in the Whitehaven area. It became a local favorite, and it now has locations in Memphis, Cordova and Nashville. It has also been recognized on Guy Fieri’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” show on the Food Network.
McCoy said that as of now they do not have an exact opening date for the new Nashville location. They are hoping to open in early summer, but it is dependent on permitting and inspections.
