Convenience store chain Wawa has a new location on the way to Madison, according to a permit. It will open a 6,374-square-foot store at 1823 Gallatin Pike N. Plans call for a drive-thru, parking, utilities and a fueling canopy.

The food-and-fuel chain launched in Pennsylvania as Wawa Dairy, founded by George Wood, in 1902. In 1964, George’s son Grahame Wood opened the first Wawa Food Market in Folsom, Penn. Now, the convenience store concept has more than 1,000 locations across the nation, with a strong presence along the East Coast.

The Wawa menu offers menu options such as fresh coffee, baked goods, beverages and breakfast sandwiches. The brand also offers lunch and dinner items such as built-to-order wraps, pizza, burgers, chicken sandwiches, quesadillas, sandwiches and burritos.

Wawa has been charting its pathway to open in Middle Tennessee for the past couple years, with plans to begin to roll out locations this year. It broke ground last year on its Murfreesboro location at 5109 Veterans Pkwy and its Clarksville location at 1290 Parkway Pl., with plans to open both spots in the second half of 2026. The brand previously announced plans to open six locations around Nashville in 2026, with plans for 50 spots in the area over the next decade.

Further locations are planned for Gallatin, Hermitage and Bellevue.
