With its national distribution, Abita Brewing Co. is the biggest Louisiana brewery, and the company is planning to establish its first satellite brewing operation in New Orleans at 2375 Tchoupitoulas St. The new brewery would be Abita’s second, with the current brewery located in the North Shore.

According to a permit filing with the City of New Orleans, the new brewery will be in a repurposed warehouse owned by the neighboring 1st Street Racquet Club, which had previously been used as a coffee shop. Renovations will create a brewing operation that is expected to produce less than 12,500 barrels annually. There will also be a bar and tap room with a seating capacity of 97 people. Plans for the brewery do not include a proper kitchen, and details about a food offering have not been released. According to NOLA.com, the bar will have 36 taps, with some beers being “experimental” or “innovative.”
