Gabrielle Lomasney, the owner and sole baker of Pretty Funky Treats, is on her way to opening her first bakery in New Orleans in September 2023, according to a recent announcement from the baker.
The 675 sq ft storefront on 4443 W. Metairie will be the new home address of Lomansey’s custom cakes and gourmet-made sweet treats. The shop will be for pick-up orders and appointments only but will occasionally open on the weekends to sell baked goods.
The 22- year-old had a full circle moment when she started working in a bakery after college where she was mentored by the owner and practiced her own skills with the inspiration from social media posts from cake makers. Funnily enough, Lomansey said she was fond of cakes when she was younger, “growing up I was obsessed with the show Cake Boss and my mom said I would keep a notebook of cake designs I would draw.”
In 2022 Lomasney created Pretty Funk Treats and started making custom cake designs, desserts and treat boxes all from her own home kitchen. Every week a new treat box menu is created including cookies, brownies, cheesecake bars, pastries, and cupcakes. Pretty Funky Treats is known for its custom cake designs brightly colored and decorated for any occasion. Scooby Doo-themed, heart-shaped, and even mermaid-inspired cakes were all hand-crafted by Lomasney.
Through selling and delivering her treats throughout Baton Rouge and New Orleans, her business started booming and soon enough Lomansey was hosting pop-up shops selling her baked goods and spreading the word about her growing business. Her training and experience working in a shop made her want to leave her own kitchen and return to operating out of a shop. The young baker is running on a success streak made of heart-shaped cakes, Oreo truffle brownies, and chocolate chip cookies.
