While New Orleans will always be a hive of culinary activity and innovation, Covington is slowly becoming the place to open hot new restaurants, and a major sign of that evolution is the plan for BRG Hospitality to bring an upscale French restaurant concept to the Northshore. BRG currently operates many high-profile restaurants in the Crescent City, including August, Domenica and Shaya. The company recently opened a restaurant called Tavi in Covington, and the new French concept will be located right next door.

The planned restaurant at 332 North New Hampshire St. in Covington will sit where the former Star Theater was located. The 81-year-old theater hadn’t been open since Hurricane Katrina and it was demolished last summer after renovation efforts fell through. The replacement building is currently being constructed, and it will house a commercial space and rooftop lounge, along with the planned BRG restaurant.

The new build is happening just as Covington is getting some serious heat as an up-and-coming small town. The April 2024 issue of Southern Living Magazine named it one of “Best Small Towns in Louisiana” and one of the “Cities on the Rise” in the Southern US.
