In March, The Times-Picayune/The New Orleans Advocate reported plans to convert the building adjacent to the Canal Street Ferry Terminal building in the Spanish Plaza into a “world class restaurant”, and recent permit filings with the City of New Orleans indicate that the restaurant will be under the BRG Hospitality restaurant group.

The restaurant will have outdoor seating overlooking the Mississippi River, an oyster bar, a dining room with seating for about 100 guests, and a bat area with a seating capacity of about 25 people. Located at 1 Poydras St. Space 1005, the restaurant is tentatively slated to open in 2025. What Now New Orleans has reached out for comment but did not get a response.

The planned BRG restaurant is just one of three planned for a revitalized Spanish Plaza. Plans also call for repurposing the former sports bar in the building just upriver from the fountain and building a 1,000-square-foot coffee house downriver of the fountain.
