The popularity of private social clubs has been in decline for decades, but maybe due to our post-pandemic need to reconnect to one another, private clubs are seeing a bit of a comeback. Many of these newer social clubs are built for the 21st century, by incorporating co-working and remote working spaces alongside more traditional hospitality and social offerings at approachable price points.
Slated to open in the summer of 2024, Common House New Orleans will bring this modern idea of a private social club to the Warehouse District. It is expected to include a restaurant, bar, co-working space, rooftop pool, fitness center, social courtyard and conference rooms. The club will have enough space for large events of up to 300 guests, including weddings and corporate events. There are currently three other Common House locations, two in Virginia and one in Tennessee. A membership to Common House includes access to all other locations.
Common House New Orleans will also attract members with regular programming. There are plans for live music, wellness classes, trivia nights, wine tastings, and a speaker series. Common House marketing director Jordan McConnel told What Now New Orleans that the club is especially suited to cities like New Orleans that are full of transplants from other locations.
“If you’re new to town, it’s a great place to join,” she said. “We have daily programming events that you can come to, not knowing anyone, and walk away with a new best friend.”
Each Common House location is designed to take advantage of the building in which it’s located, and the New Orleans location is set in the former Louisiana Children’s Museum at 420 Julia Street. Those with fond memories of the museum’s former location should welcome the sight of playful design touches and a bright color palette, McConnel said.
