From operating out of a backyard to welcoming Ice Spice on Super Bowl weekend, Dee’s Xquisite Seafood has been on an epic ride, and the wildly popular seafood restaurant in New Orleans East is preparing to open a new location in Baton Rouge. According to a post on Instagram, Dee’s is currently hiring for the Capital Region location at 4564 Bennington Ave., and a recent story from Daily Report said an opening date is set for April or May. Owner Demond Matthews said he already gets a lot of customers making the drive over from Baton Rouge. What Now New Orleans has reached out for more details.
The self-taught Matthews started Dee’s as a street food side gig, selling seafood plates outside bars and other businesses. After building a following, Matthews opened his first brick-and-mortar on St. Bernard Avenue just as the pandemic hit and found success despite COVID lockdowns and restrictions. In 2022, Matthews opened a second location on Lake Forest Boulevard in New Orleans East.
