Gautreau’s is Planning an Expansion

The upscale restaurant in Uptown is annexing the neighboring building.

After three decades of the same ownership, Gautreau’s in Uptown changed hands in the fall of 2023, and now, the new owners are planning an expansion. According to documents filed with the City of New Orleans, the upscale restaurant will be expanding into the neighboring building at 1726 Soniat St. Adding nearly 1,300 square feet of space, the expansion will include more kitchen, dining, and bar areas. It will also include two new ADA-compliant bathrooms. What Now New Orleans was able to contact ownership but has yet to receive additional details on the project.

Gautreau’s is best known for its high-quality food and low profile. The restaurant serves upscale bistro dishes that command a premium price. Its chefs have been singled out several times by Food + Wine magazine. And yet, there is no signage out front and the restaurant is located on the mostly residential Soniat Street. While its clientele tends to be local, Gautreau’s is also known to host visiting celebrities seeking a low-profile, elevated dining experience.
