Building its brand on a foundation of fried chicken, the Southerns food truck is set to add a brick-and-mortar location in Kenner, at 2401 Veterans Blvd. Formerly the Gogi Korean restaurant, the new fast-casual location is slated to open by the end of summer, according to the Times-Picayune. Owners Anthony Cruz and Gene Colley are reportedly looking to expand beyond this first location in Kenner.

Those unfamiliar with Southerns, which currently operates across three food trucks, might expect it to offer down-the-middle Southern fare like fried chicken and biscuits. However, Cruz and Colley add modern and international influences to their menus. For example, the truck has sold Filipino adobo-flavored cracklins and french fries served with a Thai aioli. The food is well-executed too, as evidenced by Southerns’ impressive haul of four awards at last year’s Oak Street Po-boy Festival.
