Owners of The Spotted Cat Music Club are looking to significantly expand the club by adding a second-floor bar area and a new courtyard. According to documents filed with the City of New Orleans, the current ‘green room’ on the second floor would be replaced with a bar and some of the bar area on the first floor would be converted into a 498-square-foot courtyard. To make space for these expansions, an apartment located behind the music club would be removed and replaced with a much smaller structure. The music club has projected that the proposed expansions would be open by mid-2024.

Like many live music venues on Frenchmen Street, The Spotted Cat is known for its intimate performances; often of traditional blues, jazz and Americana. The expansion would significantly expand the size of the bar and allow customers to gather outside. In its filings with the city, the owners of The Spotted Cat acknowledge concerns around increased noise, but said that noise has never been an issue in the past and the bar plans to continue adhering to all of the city’s noise and sound regulations.
