Kit Wong, the man behind the Ichiban and Boru Ramen restaurants in Baton Rouge, is looking to add another restaurant to his family’s portfolio. According to an application filed with the East Baton Rouge Planning Commission, Wong is seeking to rezone 4041 Government St. in Baton Rouge from a commercial office to a restaurant space. The new restaurant would be just down the street from Boru Ramen, which sits at 1509 Government St. Kit Wong’s son Randy helps to oversee the restaurant portfolio, and he told What Now New Orleans that they are still working on a concept for the space, but they are leaning toward a fast-casual restaurant.

From the 1980s to the early 2000s, Kit Wong opened Mandarin Seafood at the corner of Donmoor Avenue and Florida Boulevard. After selling that restaurant, he went on to open the Ichiban Japanege grill and sushi bar. As he has gained experience and knowledge in the industry, he’s passed on wisdom to his younger generations, including his adult sons. Kit’s other son Patrick co-owns Boru Ramen and he has studied under ramen master chefs in Tokyo and New York. Regardless of success and culinary pedigree, Wong family of restaurants strives to provide an intimate family experience. Expect the planned Government Street restaurant to have the same mission.
