After starting as a food truck and transitioning to a brick-and-mortar location in 2021, Basel’s Market is on the move, with a planned relocation from Highland Road in Baton Rouge to 5951 N. Commerce St. in St. Francisville. Fans of the café’s comforting sandwiches, whimsical décor, and signature pimento cheese should take comfort in social media posts that indicate more of the same at the new location. When it opens in late January or early February, the new Basel’s Market will feature a grab-and-go station with breakfast and lunch items. Beer and wine will also be available.

After growing up in the family’s Calvin’s Bocage Market in Baton Rouge, owner Kalyn Lindsly Anderson struck out on her own with the Basel’s Market food truck in 2017. The subsequent café on Highland Road won praise from customers for its bright, garden-inspired interior and courtyard, along with its comforting breakfast and lunch menu items. The closure of that location was announced in December 2022.
