After working as a pastry chef in luxury hotels around the world and the Windsor Court Hotel in New Orleans, England native Shane Gorringe opened Zoe’s Bakery in Covington, a modest-sized bake shop named after his daughter. That little bakery became extremely popular, and now Gorringe is planning to open a third bakery location called Zoe’s Market in a soon-to-open food hall in the Marigny.
Planned for the corner of Elysian Fields and St. Claude avenues, the food hall project has been in development since before the pandemic and it’s slated for a January 2024 opening. The new Zoe’s Market will be one of its most prominent vendors. Gorringe says a personal connection to the developer and development in the neighborhood compelled him to open a satellite location in the market.
“I think this area is the next up and coming area, especially when you look at all the construction going on in the area,” he told What Now New Orleans.
The Covington location of Zoe’s Bakery is well regarded for its service and friendly staff. It’s also popular for its wide selection of baked goods, approachable price point, and rotating offerings. Gorringe said to expect breakfast pastries and full coffee service at the new Zoe’s Market. He added that his café will complement the food hall’s other offerings, which is expected to include sushi, specialty Italian food, a fresh market, and a full bar.
“If you’re having a party, you can probably walk in there and grab everything that you need,” Gorringe said. “It’s going to be a one-stop kind of thing.”
