The Best Pizza Awards Shines Spotlight on Pizza Chefs of the World
The Best Pizza Awards 2025 ceremony took place at the East End Studios in Milan on June 25. The event welcomed more than 300 of the world’s leading pizza chefs, along with journalists and gastronomic innovators, who convened to celebrate one of the most legendary dishes in the world.
Since launching in 2022, the Best Pizza Awards have honored the best pizzaiolos in the world. This award process differs from other awards by recognizing the chefs directly, instead of the restaurants that they lead, run, and/or own. In its third edition in 2025, a selection of the 100 best pizza chefs from around the world was announced, and special awards were conferred.
The Best Pizza Awards, which is powered by The Best Chef Awards, says its mission is “to break down barriers in the pizza world and spotlight authentic craftsmanship, bold innovation, and diverse voices that are shaping the future of this iconic dish.”
A total of 512 experts from the culinary world, representing 60 countries, form the independent global voting panel for the awards. Its pizza accreditation is a “transparent, bias-free voting process” that “stays true to culinary standards, free from commercial agendas,” it says.
The Best Pizza Awards 2025: New York’s Best
The Best Pizza Selection 2025 has listed six of New York’s pizzaiolos in the top 100. Among them, the highest ranked came in at #17, followed by the rest:
- #17 – Chef Anthony Mangieri of Una Pizza Napoletana
- #25 – Chef Mark Iacono of Lucali
- #27 – Chef Wylie Dufresne of Stretch Pizza
- #34 – Chef Massimo Laveglia of L’Industrie Pizza (also won special award for the “Best Street Pizza”)
- #52 – Chef Giorgia Caporuscio of Don Antonio
- #95 – Chef Frank Tuttolomondo of Mama’s TOO!
The Best Pizza Selection 2025 list has been published online. Click on the chefs’ names to read their full bios. Apart from those based in New York, eight other chefs from across the U.S. also made it to the list.
As one might expect, the Best Pizza Selection 2025 was dominated by Italian chefs and their pizzerias—the dish originated in their country and remains central to their culinary heritage. Chef Francesco Martucci of I Masanielli in Caserta, Italy, was ranked #1.
What may come as a surprise is that several Japanese chefs also made the list, with the top-ranked among them at #6. Other countries represented include Canada, Spain, Mexico, the Philippines, and more.
