Long Island Cares and PSEG Long Island have partnered to host a fair for food-insecure seniors in the community. The Senior Resource Fair will take place on August 12.
Highlights
- The Senior Resource Fair will take place at Hauppauge, Long Island, on August 12.
- The event will be co-sponsored by Long Island Cares and PSEG Long Island.
- Attendees will receive fresh produce, enjoy healthy meals, and connect with advocacy resources during the fair.
Senior Resource Fair and Its Three-Fold Purpose
The Senior Resource Fair will serve three purposes, all of which are focused on helping people who are 65 and older. The three-fold purposes are as follows:
- Improve access to nutritious food
- Distribute fresh produce for seniors to take home through a dedicated, on-site farmer’s market
- Connect seniors with advocacy efforts that represent them and increase awareness of available resources available to older adults.
Dr. Jessica Rosati, Chief Programs Officer at Long Island Cares said that coming together to meet the needs of Long Islanders is at the core of both Long Island Cares and PSEG Long Island’s missions. “We are grateful for the ongoing partnership of PSEG Long Island in ensuring that seniors are provided with the resources needed to live independently and healthy”, Rosati added.
“These resource fairs will provide important education about assistance programs, as well as nutritious, locally sourced produce and other food, to help eliminate hunger from their lives,” said John Keating, PSEG Long Island’s manager of Economic and Community Development.
Several organizations and agencies that will share information with seniors about their services and products will be present at the fair and have been listed in the press release. Long Island Cares will host another fair for veterans in November.
When and Where
The Senior Resource Fair will take place at the Long Island Cares’ Center for Community Engagement at 75 Davids Drive, Hauppauge. Timings for the fair will be 9 AM to noon on August 12.
