Cello’s Pizza, a new pizza spot in the East Village, is owned by restaurateurs Steve Kline, Charlie Trioia, Erasmo Trioia and Larry Kramer. The name for Cello’s Pizza comes from co-owner Charlie Troia’s family, who own Rosa’s Pizza. Kramer also has longstanding ties to the restaurant industry as the founder of Whitmans’. The store opened a few weeks ago, but it is just the beginning for Cello’s Pizza.
“Our team combined forces to take over the previous shop and improve on the concept,” said Kramer in an interview with What Now NY. “Cello’s Pizza pays homage to classic New York pizzerias but with an elevated touch. There has been a pizza renaissance in New York with pizzas coming to a new echelon of quality using great ingredients. We are bringing Cello’s Pizza here because we thought the East Village needed this.”
There is a porch out in front of the store that the Cello’s Pizza team are currently converting to be able to accommodate seating. They are also waiting to be able to serve alcoholic beverages and spirits. The Cello’s Pizza team have submitted an application for a liquor license to Community Board 3.
Cello’s Pizza opened earlier this summer but are doing some minor touch ups as they get to understand their business operations in action. The interior space is 800 square feet according to Kramer. This fall, Cello’s Pizza hopes to be in the swing of things with eat-in and take-out options for guests.
Cello’s Pizza plans to open additional locations in the future.
