A New York-based neighborhood sandwich shop has set its sights on its first Manhattan location with a space at 123 First Ave. The spot was formerly home to Memphis Seoul, which closed in the space nearly a year ago.
Compton’s Sandwich Shop has expanded to five locations since Alex Compton opened the first shop in Queens in 2018. It also has spots in Astoria, Greenpoint, New Jersey and Whitestone, with one more on the way to Syosset.
Compton told What Now New York that they are aiming to open by mid-March, with renovations still on the way. Compton himself is a Manhattan native, and he believes Compton’s will fill a gap in the market in that area.
“We think [the location] is a good demographic fit for us,” Compton said. “We got good traction with the 20s to mid-30s crowd, so we feel that area is a good fit.”
The spot is known for its menu of hot and cold sandwiches, parms, cheesesteaks, wraps and burgers.
“As we continue to grow and partner with new communities, our commitment to originality and authenticity remains at our core,” the Compton’s website states. “Our bread is a Compton’s exclusive recipe you won’t find anywhere else, and our house-made condiments are flavors you won’t come across in other sandwich shops. We’re proud of everything that sets us apart, but the honest truth is we only know how to serve food that we enjoy ourselves.”
