In the wake of Thai restaurant Ugly Baby’s closure at the end of 2024, new plans for the space have emerged. Angie Ruangphung and Sun Kulaptip — former Ugly Baby employees — are stepping in to transform the space into their own Thai restaurant called Hungry Thirsty.

The two will be first-time restaurant owners, according to a post on their Facebook page.

Hungry Thirsty is targeting a winter opening at 407 Smith Street in Brooklyn. The spot will serve home-cooked Thai street food and is “coming soon,” according to its Instagram page.

The menu will be largely original but will draw inspiration for a couple dishes from the Ugly Baby menu, according to Eater NY. It will focus on southern Thailand cuisine.

Ruangphung confirmed the location and restaurant in a phone call with What Now New York but was not immediately available for comment.

“We’re so excited to open our very first restaurant ‘Hungry Thirsty,’” ownership posed on Facebook. “Thank you for all incredible support. Can’t wait to see you soon!”
