Irish modern bar Banshee is looking to secure a liquor license, according to recently filed paperwork. It is planning to go in at 143 First Ave. in the East Village.

Co-owner Jennifer Murphy told What Now New York that the concept will be based around Guinness and oysters, and it will offer a selection of other drinks and small bites, including martinis.

“It’s bringing together two things that I love and that I think East Village will appreciate,” Murphy said.

Murphy is planning to draw inspiration from her roots, which are in Ireland. She has also worked at the dive bar International for a number of years. She is teaming up with Jason Corey to bring this venture to life.

While Murphy declined to share further design and menu details at this time, she said the space will have a small backyard.

Murphy did not comment on an opening timeline, saying they are focusing first on securing a liquor license before moving forward. However, they are still in the early stages of development with buildout still to come.
