A new concept called 5’s has filed paperwork for a liquor license at 179 Avenue B. Owner Michael Dunne told What Now New York that 5’s will be a classic New York lunch counter concept, featuring seasonal and local meats and produce.
As the name suggests, the number five will be significant in the menu and concept. Dunne said they plan to have five food items, five wines, five beers and so on, on the menu.
All meats will be sourced from upstate New York and all the produce will come from Lancaster, Penn. The wine, beer and spirits will also be sourced domestically. Dunne said the culinary style will have Asian influence.
“The way the menu will be broken down is we’ll be buying, say, a quarter of a cow, or a whole pig,” Dunne said. “We’ll be working through that along with the seasonal produce that we have. So the menu will change three to four times a week depending on the produce and meat we’re getting.”
The space is about 1,100 square feet with a small dining room in the back. Dunne said the menu is still in development and renovations are still ongoing, so he is aiming for a May or June opening.
“[The idea is] to have a small space [where] you’re interacting with the bartenders, the owners, the guests. And the people working have an interaction together,” Dunne said.
