Mamasushi is expanding to 391 Hooper St. in Williamsburg. This will be the fifth location for the brand, which has spots in Dyckman, Bronx, Harlem and Passaic in New Jersey.

Mamasushi is known for its unique blend of Asian and Latin American cuisine. Though the menus vary slightly from location to location, the Mamasushi menu features “Latin sushi” concepts such as rolls with fully cooked proteins and ingredients such as guacamole, sweet plantains, white cheese and pico de gallo. House rolls that Mamasushi serves include The Green Giant, which includes baby bok choy, brussel sprouts, asparagus, carrots, shallots and garlic, and the Mamasushi roll, which contains chicken tempura, bacon, cream cheese and sweet plantain.

The menu also includes items such as tacos and udon noodles.

Owners Susana Osorio and Raymond Hernandez are prepping the Williamsburg location for opening.

Hernandez said customers can expect that the menu and beverage program will be about 70-80% the same as the other locations. There will be some variation — for example, the team is considering serving oysters at the new spot.

The location does have some other key differences, as well, that set the Williamsburg spot apart.

“The location is unique because it’s the first one that will have a rooftop,” Hernandez said. “The rooftop is right above the restaurant, and because it’s a corner, it’s going to be very wide and comfortable. This is a unique concept for us because of that particularity.”

In addition to the rooftop, Hernandez and the team have paid special attention to establishing an ambiance for the location’s interior.

“We installed a lighting system so the space has an ambiance at night, so while you’re having dinner you will feel like you are in a lounge environment even though it is quiet,” Hernandez said. “It’s not like a club, but it will give you [the feeling] of a lounge environment.”

Osorio and Hernandez are aiming for a mid-October opening date.

“We’re just very excited coming into Williamsburg and looking forward to our expansion there,” Osorio said.
