As the major $1.5 billion revamp of Terminal 4 at JFK Airport continues, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and Terminal 4 operator JFKIAT have revealed new food and beverage locations coming to the terminal.
Manhattan-based Japanese restaurant Bessou is among the new concessions heading to the terminal, according to a release obtained by What Now New York. The new concession offerings will be operated by the global travel dining group HMSHost.
Maiko Kyogoku opened Bessou in NoHo in 2016, offering a modern take on traditional Japanese cuisine.
“Bessou began as a cozy neighborhood restaurant in Noho, dedicated to offering creative Japanese home cooking,” the Bessou website states. “Our vision was to create a place reminiscent of a holiday villa where ‘everyone knew your name,’ and we quickly became a local favorite.”
However, the restaurant closed amid COVID-19 struggles and instead opened up shop at Pier 57.
The spot in Terminal 4 is expected to serve Japanese comfort food. The Bessou menu includes items like salmon sashimi crispy rice, spicy tuna crispy rice and Japanese-style fried chicken.
Bessou is one of multiple local businesses slated to join the Terminal 4 lineup as JFKIAT aims to bring New York brands to the airport.
“From the outset, our goal in building a new JFK International Airport has been to create a world-class passenger experience that will include a mix of exceptional local food and beverage brands alongside notable national brands,” Port Authority executive director Rick Cotton said in the release. “Terminal 4’s lineup of appealing, iconic local brands will help to create a travel experience that is unique to New York.”
A spokesperson with HMSHost shared that opening timelines have not been finalized. As the opening dates for the new concessions grow closer, the team will share further updates.
