Jianfa Chen and his family are planning to bring a new Chinese restaurant to 110 First Avenue in East Village. Chen has filed paperwork for a liquor license at the address, which used to house a Japanese restaurant.
Chen told What Now New York that the spot will feature traditional Chinese dishes with a Cantonese influence. Menu offerings include pineapple sweet and sour pork, Cantonese-style crispy prawns, and Twilight fried rice, which includes egg, shrimp, sausage, corn, scallion and XO sauce. The menu will also offer wine and beer.
Chen’s father, Pei, will be the chef. Pei has more than 30 years of experience in the industry, working at spots like Cafe China.
“It’s a family business and we want to share our food with the community,” Chen said. “It’s not a fancy restaurant, but pretty casual dining.”
The space will be 1,100 square feet, according to Traded. Chen said they will have 30 seats and a small bar, which will seat two.
Chen said that they are in the process of renovating the space. They are aiming to open in March.
