An exciting new sushi restaurant is currently getting ready to open up on St Marks street.
Sushi Fan is the latest concept to arrive on the East Village’s iconic St Marks Place. The restaurant is a new project from owner Eric Zheng and is envisioned as an original omakase concept that will bring together new flavors not commonly found in similar restaurants. The restaurant is currently scheduled to open up at 102 East St Marks Place, between Avenue A and First Avenue, less than a block away from Tompkins Square Park.
The location was formerly home to Proletariat, a popular bar from Overthrow Hospitality’s Ravi DeRossi that closed down when Ravi moved his concept to a new location. That move, coincidentally, was also covered by yours truly back in December of 2021, and now the vacated space finally has a suitable occupant.
Eric spoke to What Now New York about his plans for Sushi Fan, and revealed that he wants to offer an elevated 12-course tasting menu that will enhance the traditional omakase experience. Instead of serving the classic nigiri staples that one might find at other sushi restaurants, Sushi Fan plans to offer something more akin to Asian fusion, topping the sushi with rare and unique ingredients. Sushi Fan will also offer other exciting dishes like wagyu on toast.
At the moment, Eric is currently launching a soft opening for Sushi Fan until the community board approves his liquor license application. Sushi Fan will operate Tuesday – Sunday 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM, and until they can get their liquor license, you are cordially invited to BYOB.
