A new wine bar, Babysips, is heading to 176 Rivington Street on the Lower East Side. Owner David Wilson told What Now New York they are in the process of securing an alcohol license and then will be signing the lease for the space.

Wilson has been in fine dining for the last seven years, working at spots like Cosme and a few places in Brooklyn. He and his business partner, who also has experience at Cosme, have plans for a wine bar that will serve small bites.

“I wanted the challenge of Manhattan and knowing there’s a constant flux of people,” Wilson said. “There’s something that draws me to the chaos. Putting together a beautifully curated spot in the mayhem of Manhattan was very attractive to me.”

The design will create a casual atmosphere, Wilson said. He is hoping to open the spot in late April or May.

“I feel that the area on the Lower East Side and part of the East Village is kind of on an up right now,” Wilson said. “I feel this new energy bubbling, and it’s just cool to be part of that and see what happens.”
