The iconic New York City-based brand, H&H Bagels, will open its sixth city location at Penn Station this year.
The breaking news was included in a larger announcement from the 50-plus-year-old company that shared it will be expanding out of state. It expects to open 25 new locations, which will be a mix of company-owned stores and franchises, in Florida, California, Washington, D.C., Virginia, Illinois and Connecticut. This expansion plan has been in the works for nearly a decade, says Chief Executive Officer Jay Rushin. The bagels will be shipped from their 20,000-square-foot bakery in Queens where its workers use traditional artisanal water bagel techniques to make high-quality New York City-style bagels.
“Our hope is to finally bring the people, the customers, of the United States a real New York City bagel for once,” Rushin tells What Now New York. “We’re gonna bring the actual H&H Bagel experience to everyone in the country, so anyone that looks forward to, on the plane, coming to New York for bagels won’t necessarily have to do that anymore.”
Rushin says that H&H Bagels already anticipates opening more than initially announced. Customers can expect updates from the company about more locations later this summer.
Its brands recognition can be attributed to, in part, its various television and film cameos, getting lucrative advertising placements in iconic shows such as Seinfeld, The Office, You’ve Got Mail, Sex and the City, How I Met Your Mother, Entourage, Manhattan Murder Mystery and Boy Meets Girl.
