Chef Sam Yoo opened Golden Diner in Chinatown in 2019. Now, he has a couple new concepts in the works for this fall.

He plans to open NY Kimchi in Rockefeller Center at 16 W 48th St. in October. The new restaurant will open alongside his other new spot, Golden HOF, which is also expected to open this October.

NY Kimchi will be a Korean raw bar and steakhouse, which will feature a variety of meat cuts and crudo, ranging from Korean barbecue-style dishes to tuna tartare.

Though NY Kimchi features a new concept and menu, it takes its name from Yoo’s family restaurant, which his parents opened in 2014 at the same address in Rockefeller Center. The new spot will be a reimagining of the KBBQ restaurant that his parents operated, with some nods to the KBBQ concept but also different menu items as well.

Its sister restaurant concept Golden HOF will also be a Korean restaurant, but it will fill a different niche. Golden HOF will be a Korean pub that will serve an extensive Korean-style beverage list alongside anju, or Korean drinking food.

Yoo’s existing concept, Golden Diner, is much different from these new spots. It serves classic New York diner dishes, although the menu items tend to feature fusions from different cuisines, including some Korean menu items.
