Ryder System, Inc., a transportation and logistics company, recently filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice. The filing indicated a mass layoff affecting 153 employees in Black Hawk County.

Ryder System, Inc. Files WARN Notice

Ryder System, Inc. filed the WARN notice with Iowa Workforce Development, which monitors plant closures and large-scale layoffs across the state.

The notice filed on April 8 stated that the workers will be laid off at the facility at 2280 Northeast Dr, Waterloo, IA 50703, United States. The layoffs will take effect on July 24, 2026. A report by KCRG stated that the layoffs are linked to the transition of ownership at the transportation site.

Ryder System, Inc. offers technology-based supply chain, fleet management, and transportation services to companies in North America. Ryder mainly operates as a third-party logistics (3PL) firm, assisting organizations in coordinating complex supply chain activities, from manufacturing and warehousing to final delivery.

The company offers a broad spectrum of integrated services. These services include warehouse and distribution, e-commerce fulfillment, freight brokerage, transportation management, last-mile delivery, truck leasing and rental, fleet maintenance, and used vehicle sales.

In recent years, Ryder has increased attention on digital platforms, artificial intelligence, automation, and warehouse robotics to enhance visibility and efficiency in supply chains. These investments enable companies to keep pace with the fast-changing e-commerce and international logistics.

The company is also expected to release its first-quarter 2026 earnings later this month.
