Carrollwood, St. Petersburg, and South Tampa are the three Florida cities that saw the Evos shutting their doors. The confirmation of the closings came on April 4 from Evos Holdings, the company that owns the chain.
Evos may never have been as big as their competitors like McDonalds or Wendy’s, but they did have a significant footprint at one point in their history. Being a famous enough fast-food option, it is not clear when things started going south for the company. What is known is that the locations started closing down one after the other, finally culminating in the three Tampa Bay locations that have now closed down.
Notably, the company did not file for bankruptcy before the store closures. The reason why the stores are being closed has not been made public. Declining sales, supply chain issues, inflation, changing customer behavior, and the struggle to compete with larger, well-established businesses are among the possible reasons.
Alkis Crassas, Michael Jeffers, and Dino Lambridis founded the brand that gave a health-conscious twist to American favorites like burgers, hotdogs, fries, and shakes in 1994. “EVOS is delicious American food. But without the guilt and regret,” it says on the official website.
A prepared statement from Jeffers said, “We’ve enjoyed this chapter of our lives immensely, but all good things come to an end.” Speaking about the future of the chain’s employees, he said, “We have no regrets, and we leave having taken steps to secure jobs and futures for our valued team.”. He closed the statement, saying, “We’re thankful for the opportunity to serve our community, which has rewarded us many times over.”
EVOS was founded on the mission “to create a place where family and friends could enjoy a great tasting All-American meal made with healthier ingredients and cooked without grease.” It made burgers and other menu items healthier by air braking instead of deep-frying them. They found ways to seal in the flavors without the excess fat & calories. The brand also used only humanely and naturally raised beef and chicken for their ingredients.
EVOS is the latest addition to the list of restaurants that are closing down across the nation. Several restaurant chains have been downsizing by closing down locations, and more closings are expected in the remaining part of the year.
